UBS issues cautious comments on Harley Davidson (HOG +5.9%) despite the motorcyle maker's seemingly strong Q1 report and subsequent rally. Analysts with the firm warn that the company shipped everything they produced during the period and dealer inventory trended higher despite the strong sales numbers.

Hmmm. Increasing dealer inventory ahead of the summer motorcycling season. What is management thinking?

But it is kind of amazing to me....I would be a little conservative if I was going to buy a $30,000 bike....and I might lose my job....

Not all Harley's are $30,000. An entry level Sportster is $7995.
A Heritage Softail Classis is around $17,000. CVO's......(the Bentley's of Harley) run $36,000. When do you think they should ship bikes to the dealers? In the dead of winter......just before Christmas? I sure dont see people in Northern states chomping at the bit to take out a loan and start making payments with 2 feet of snow on the ground.
Lastly, if you haven't lost your job by now, you probably won't be this year.........and unless you're a rider, you have no idea the mindset of bikers and how they feel about how they spend their money. Most would dump their wife, house and car, but keep their bike.
