- Sotheby's (NYSE:BID) wins the right to auction off the $500M estate of its former billionaire chairman, A. Alfred Taubman, in what the auction house says is the highest estimate ever for a private collection at auction.
- BID says it will offer more than 500 works amassed by Taubman over more than 50 years, ranging from antiquities to contemporary art, in four stand-alone auctions, starting on Nov. 4.
- The consignment will offer a sweeping array of artworks by Raphael, Thomas Gainsborough, Pablo Picasso and Mark Rothko, among others.
