  • Jim Keller, who returned to AMD (AMD -1.3%) from Apple in 2012 to be AMD's chief CPU architect, has left the company to "pursue other opportunities."
  • AMD states Keller was "responsible for overseeing the teams defining the roadmaps for AMD’s CPU cores, systems IP, and server and client SoCs." He was spearheading the development of AMD's next-gen Zen CPU core (expected to begin sampling in 2016), which the company has been counting on to improve its footing relative to share-gaining Intel. He was also working on AMD's K12 custom ARM CPU core, which earlier this year saw its ETA pushed back to 2017. (Keller's Wikipedia page)
  • The news comes a week after AMD stated it's creating a separate Radeon Technologies Group for its GPU-related efforts.
