- Shares of backup generator maker Generac (NYSE:GNRC) jumped more than 10% in today's trade ahead of the potential U.S. landfall of Hurricane Joaquin, which would be the first hurricane to hit the U.S. since July 2014.
- Models for the storm predict it will hit the east coast anywhere from North Carolina to Long Island, and previous severe weather events have tended to push GNRC shares higher.
- "As a result of the increased awareness these outage events provide, adoption rates for home standby and light commercial generators have accelerated over the last several years," the company says.
