Collective Brands (PSS) gets snapped up by a consortium led by Wolverine World Wide Group (WWW +1.1%) and Golden Gate Capital for $21.75 a share after word leaked yesterday that a deal was in the works. PSS +2.2% to $21.21.

    I sold my position in WWW on this news. The brands WWW has acquired in this transaction have little in common with the brands it already markets. It's hard to see how the great engineering innovations in the Merrell brand is going to find synergy in Stride-Rite and Topside. I'm disappointed that WWW chose this path, rather than focusing on deeper market penetration in their core products.
