Time Warner (TWX) increases pressure on execs at CNN to turn around the network's long-time ratings decline after seeing the firm slip past MSNBC to the #3 most-watched cable news slot. Though it nearly invented the genre of cable news, CNN's model appears to be broken as viewers flock to it for major stories - but prefer Fox News or MSNBC to hear partisan views on a daily basis.

I think there is a lot more to it than just "partisan views".

CNN used to be THE source for real news, and not just US news but international. Now it is full of politics and fluff, and the HLN channel is pretty much just the Nancy Grace of news channels, and I almost never watch it.

Currenty the best source for international news is Al Jazheera, but almost no cable or satellite carriers have it, so pretty much limited to internet streaming in the US (though some 110 other countries carry it).

CNN's problem is that they've tried to go the MSNBC route by being almost all leftwing and partisan all the time (when they're not doing fluff stuff that isn't remotely news of any kind) and are far more boring at it than MSNBC is. Try watching their primetime lineup some night (Go ahead and try to make it through a whole evening of that mess. I dare you.), and you'll see why their ratings suck. Their programming sucks. Last I saw numbers on it broken down by how people self-identified (conservative, moderate or liberal), Fox had around about the same number of self-identified liberals watching as CNN did. That's a serious FAIL on CNN's part.

That's funny, I stopped watching CNN because they don't do news anymore, all they are is opinionated garbage like Fox.

Especially the Nancy Grace show but all of them are just sickening with their talking heads spewing their own version of what they think is the politically correct interpretation of what should be news; I call it trash.

It's bizarre, the Nancy Grace "show" on what used to be Headline News. Might as well put Jerry Springer on there.

I have emailed them and asked them to go back to reporting news, but it seems objectively-reported news has gone extinct in America - this is CNN's problem.

Same here - HLN used to be actual news, now it is total sensationalist crap, repeated ad nauseum. I pretty much only watch Bloomberg, Fox Business, and sometimes the Euro/Asia feeds on CNBC.

There is not one single channel anymore with any in-depth real news. It is all hours and hours of politcal speculation and non-news. When stories about Romney's dog get more airtime than Asia and South America combined, there is a problem.
