- Santander (SAN +0.2%) boss Ana Botin has long been a fan of the way Wells Fargo turns branches into "stores" - cross-selling credit cards, mortgages, and other offerings to customers. Santander is now in the process of remodeling branches to look like first-class airline lounges, and investing in digital payments, and mobile banking startups. Botin and team have also redesigned the checking account with a new offering called 1/2/3.
- Botin's plan is to turn customers into "loyal customers" who pay monthly bills with their Santander account, use Santander credit cards, and take out a Santander mortgage. She promises to add nearly 6M of these profitable clients by 2018.
- This and more are in Bloomberg's lengthy profile.
