- Ahead of tomorrow afternoon's Q4 report, Juniper (JNPR +1.6%) says it's acquiring BTI Systems, a provider of optical networking hardware and related management/SDN software for metro networks and data center interconnects (DCIs). Terms are undisclosed.
- Juniper: "We expect the acquisition will allow Juniper to accelerate the delivery of open and automated packet optical transport solutions that integrate with our NorthStar [WAN SDN] Controller and include network management features that enable end-to-end provisioning of new services. The combination of BTI Systems’ accomplished team, innovative and open solutions with Juniper’s longstanding switching and IP routing expertise positions the company well to take advantage of the fast growing DCI and Metro markets."
- The metro/DCI optical networking segment is expected to see healthy growth, aided by 100G metro buildouts by carriers and growing optical network investments by Web/cloud data center owners. Ciena, Infinera, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, and Huawei are among the firms competing in this space.
