- Mobile accessory maker Zagg (NASDAQ:ZAGG -1.4%) is acquiring Mophie in an effort to lead market share in more accessory categories.
- The combined firm will play in external batteries as well as battery cases, screen protection and tablet keyboards. The two companies together logged net sales in 2015 of about $470M.
- The companies say their merger will result in an improved technology platform (with stronger engineering in China) and a global distribution network, and a stronger financial profile by leveraging operational efficiencies.
- ZAGG is up 3.2% in after-hours action.
