- Globalstar (NYSE:GSAT) has gained 12.3% after announcing today's partnership with avionics maker Avidyne to make communications products for the aviation market.
- The offering will leverage Globalstar's second-gen satellites to provide Internet and voice communications for operators and for owner-flown aircraft. Sales will be exclusively handled by Avidyne using its worldwide dealer network.
- The move should mean more flexibility in receiving real-time weather information and flight tracking as well as easier integration into flight department operations centers.
- The partnership is also promising backup communications systems for larger business aircraft that already have a high-bandwidth satcom or air-to-ground communications system.
