- HBO (TWX -1%) has named Casey Bloys -- until recently the exec in charge of comedy -- to fill big shoes and take over the top creative job at the network.
- Bloys is the new president of programming, replacing 33-year network veteran Michael Lombardo, who departed a few days ago to move into a more entrepreneurial creative role. HBO CEO Richard Plepler "has encouraged me to think big, and I’m going to do that," Lombardo says.
- Bloys' name was floated among a number of observers as a likely replacement, but with some relative inexperience is taking on a challenge at HBO, amid recent programming stumbles like Vinyl and other projects coming apart or being placed on hold.
