- Although U.S. Air Force and industry officials have repeatedly dismissed the chances of reviving production of Lockheed Martin’s (LMT -0.6%) F-22 fighter aircraft, the Air Force’s outgoing chief of staff says it might not be such a crazy idea after all, Defense News reports.
- Gen. Mark Welsh said yesterday that "the success of the F-22 and the capability of the airplane and the crews that fly it are pretty exceptional. I think it’s proven that the airplane is exactly what everybody hoped it would be... Well, could you build more? It’s not a crazy idea.”
- Welsh said the Air Force is working with LMT to determine the feasibility and cost of such a project.
- D.C. lawmakers have condemned the decision to shut down the F-22 line ever since LMT terminated production nearly five years ago.
