- Centerra Gold (OTCPK:CAGDF), whose main asset is the Kumtor gold mine in Kyrgyzstan, says it has taken its dispute with the country over profit sharing to international arbitration.
- A local court last week fined Centerra's local Kumtor Operating Co. subsidiary nearly $100M following a lawsuit from an environmental safety regulator, and another regulator has filed a $230M lawsuit against the company; last month, Kyrgyz prosecutors raided the company’s offices to collect documents related to a separate criminal case alleging financial violations.
- Kumtor said it would be forced to halt operations at the mine unless it receives environmental permits to continue beyond June.
