Barclays' Ben Reitzes adds his name to those who see an $800 MacBook Air arriving next month, and predicts Mac (AAPL) sales, which were a little soft in the March quarter, will "accelerate markedly" towards year's end. Today's report about new Air models featuring retina displays suggests Apple might borrow a page from its iPad pricing strategy by selling an Air with an older display for $800, and selling the retina display models at its regular prices.

I call this the 911 (Porsche) product scheme. Start with a unique body build that looks the same from a distance, and as you draw closer the differences in options and price become apparent. In the case of the MacBook Airs, the Apple production line can maintain its efficiency while the price of entry is lowered for those wanting to adopt the platform. Meanwhile current owners who waited to buy should get the upgrades they were hoping for. At least, I hope Apple is adding more than just a Retina Display.
