- BMW, Intel (NASDAQ:INTC -0.4%) and Mobileye (MBLY +1.8%) announce plans to begin mass producing self-driving cars by 2021.
- BMW will produce the car in cooperation with MBLY, an Israeli company that makes software and components that help prevent collisions, and Intel, who also will provide technology for the car.
- MBLY says the partnership will utilize its EyeQ5 systems and its Road Experience Management technology to provide precise localization; INTC is contributing computing, connectivity, safety and security assets.
- The announcement comes only a day after news that a driver recently was killed in a crash while his Tesla Model S electric sedan was in self-driving mode.
