- Mattel (NASDAQ:MAT) will take over the Jurassic Park toy license from Hasbro (NASDAQ:HAS) in July of 2017. The strong move by the company is aimed at boosting sales for the boys business. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
- Hasbro reported a sharp in Jurassic-related sales in Q2. The drop was largely expected due to the comparison to last year when a Jurassic movie was released. The next Jurassic movie is scheduled for 2018.
- Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner brought up the loss of the license on yesterday's post-earnings conference call (transcript). "We’ll no longer handle Jurassic Park because we were unable to arrive at a mutually beneficial financial arrangement on that brand," he noted.
- The Jurassic franchise is owned by Universal (NASDAQ:CMCSA).
