- Boeing (NYSE:BA) CFO Greg Smith says the company will not increase production of the 787 Dreamliner unless sales improve, the clearest indication yet that Boeing's large jetliner production may have peaked for now.
- The 787 program would remain profitable with production at 12/month instead of raising it to 14 as planned, the CFO said today at a Jefferies investment conference, adding that the company still has about two years to decide whether to raise 787 output, given lead times for components.
- Analysts say Smith's comments confirm that Boeing will not overproduce widebody planes and, most importantly, does not foresee an accounting charge for the 787 if output stays at 12.
