- An announcement this week by Delta Air Lines (DAL -0.9%) on expansion out of Boston had more to do with an escalating battle against JetBlue (JBLU -2.7%) than significant capacity growth (90 departures out of BOS vs. 83 prior), according to Wolfe Research.
- JetBlue has aimed some of its recent strategy at cutting into Delta's dominance in Atlanta and with the Boston-LaGuardia shuttle service.
- Wolfe says in the long term the extra presence in Boston could help if JetBlue decides to jump across the pond with flights.
- Shares of Delta and JetBlue are both down roughly 28% YTD.
