Asus joins the e-reader club, and sources say a budget version of the new product will cost around $164. Amazon (AMZN) and Sony (SNE) would both do well to keep a watchful eye, as Asus has shaken up markets in the past with its low-cost entry points.

    "...will create a new low-end digital reader to be out before the end of the year..."...uhh, that's news????...no -- that's a rumor (and more likely the company is just raising a "flag" to see who, if anyone, salutes it)...and is as newsworthy as Apple's forever rumored ebook reader...
