"There's an elephant in the room," says David Einhorn at Ira Sohn, unveiling bearishness (but no short of yet) on Amazon (AMZN). He wonders if it's really a better business than the companies it's taking a bite out of. "Operating profits haven't grown at all. They've taken $30B in profitless revenues from other retailers." I didn't believe it when I joked that Einhorn was going to start talking about Amazon. Now that David has focused his "Eye of Sauron" on Amazon, I'm feeling sorry for Bezos. Poor guy! It's not going to be a fun year for him.
If Amazon runs any cloud services for Greenlight Capital, they should shut them down immediately (websites, storage, analytic) and tell Einhorn that your lowering costs... Starting with them. You would be surprised how many websites Amazons EC2 touches.

It doesn't take 100+ page presentations to see how pathetic things are at AMZN. This year earnings are going to come in HARD and people are going to start asking questions that will be extremely difficult to answer.

Reasonable people have seen this for awhile, it's only the suckers that are going to lose money here. However, when a "big name" mentions it's not a good business everyone starts paying attention.

Great idea, but not new. See Bruce Greenwald about short Amazon some months ago.
