U.S. Cellular testing fixed wireless for rural broadband

• U.S. Cellular (NYSE:USM) is planning to do additional fixed wireless testing in the first half, with an eye to creating a broadband offering for rural customers.
• “In rural America, there’s a place where the cable footprint stops that we may be able to offer some nice options around broadband," says CEO Kenneth Meyers.
• The tests this year will use current spectrum "without getting into 5G."
• The company is also working to spread voice over LTE across its network this year.
