Dieselgate criminal probe escalates

• The FBI has arrested Volkswagen's (VLKAY) regulatory compliance executive, Oliver Schmidt, who faces conspiracy charges linked to Dieselgate, according to NYT.
• The arrest comes as VW nears a deal to pay the DOJ more than $3B to settle the emissions scandal's criminal investigation, on top of the nearly $17.5B the automaker will pay to resolve civil claims.
