- As expected, a district court judge has ruled against the intended merger between Humana (HUM -1.3%) and Aetna (AET -1.8%) on antitrust grounds. The action is bad news for Aetna which will owe Humana a $1B breakup fee.
- Judge John Bates ruled that the U.S. Department of Justice proved its case that the merger would unlawfully threaten competition and would result in higher prices and reduced services for seniors who buy Medicare Advantage, a private Medicare plan.
