- Egypt plans to import as many as 108 cargoes of liquefied natural gas this year as it prepares to start producing at two gas fields and move closer to self-sufficiency and even exports by 2019, Bloomberg reports.
- Imports may be reduced in 2018 as BP’s (BP -0.6%) North Alexandria concession works to start gas production in April and Eni's (E -2.4%) giant Zohr field plans to produce by year-end, according to the report.
- The Zohr deposit, which Eni discovered last year, has an estimated reserve of ~850B cm of natural gas in place, which Egypt's government expects will help ease the country’s energy shortage and allow for the resumption of exports.
- Egypt may announce new gas discoveries by H2 of this year, the oil minister said last week.
