  • North Dakota's governor orders protesters to evacuate their camp near the site of the Dakota Access Pipeline by Feb. 22, citing safety concerns related to accelerated snowmelt and rising water levels of the nearby Cannonball River.
  • The executive order, which says the camp poses an environmental danger to the surrounding area, reaffirms a deadline set by the Army Corps of Engineers for the demonstrators to clean up and leave.
  • It is not known if the protesters will leave, and pipeline builder Energy Transfer Partners (ETP -1.4%) is showing increasing frustration; in written testimony before a panel of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, a company executive compared the demonstrators to terrorists.
  • Executive VP Joey Mahmoud said he fears the protesters' "aggressive" tactics "will soon be the norm - if they are not already... Had these actions been undertaken by foreign nationals, they could only be described as acts of terrorism."
