- Statoil (STO +0.2%) and Germany's PNE Wind last Friday submitted unsolicited requests for leases to build wind farms off the coasts of New York and Massachusetts.
- The sites south of Long Island, N.Y., and Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., are near existing areas already designated for offshore development; STO itself won an auction won an auction for a New York site in December.
- PNE wants to install 400 MW of capacity on a 41K acre site south of Long Island near the 79K-acre offshore wind area where STO won its lease in December; PNE and STO both requested leases to build at least 400 MW on adjacent sites with a total of ~390K acres south of Martha’s Vineyard.
