Reuters: Trump seeks energy company input on Paris climate pact

  • The Trump administration has been contacting U.S. energy companies to ask them about their views on the U.N. global climate accord, Reuters reports, in a possible sign that Trump is reconsidering his 2016 campaign pledge to back out of the deal.
  • Many of the companies reportedly reached by the administration - including Exxon Mobil (XOM +0.6%) and ConocoPhillips (COP +0.9%) - had said previously that they would prefer the U.S. remain in the pact, but also would support reducing the U.S. commitments in the deal.
  • As part of the agreement reached in 2015 by nearly 200 countries meeting in Paris, the U.S. committed to reducing its emissions by 26%-28% below 2005 levels by 2025.
