Palm's (PALM -4.7%) high-stakes Pre smartphone faces a setback, as Verizon (VZ) decides not to support the phone in January as expected. The Pre has been exclusively offered on the Sprint (S) network; sources say less-than-blockbuster sales of under a million units are partly to blame.

This is the stock I can never understand, but hey, when consumers want to buy "umbrella on a sunny day", what is there for me to complaint about. I love my Iphone, just like others love their Blackberry, I just cannot understand the love for Pre in a times like this. This stock has been as low as 1.14 and "boom" to 17 bucks on an unproven products (no matter how good it is)! I have to admit I miss the call to buy when it jumped above $5, but I will never buy this as a fundamental point of view.....

Ryu - I agree. When this stock went to the moon I was amazed. The company generated lackluster products and vision for years while competitors stole their lunch. The Pre is too little and too late to the game. I traded the chart on this all the way thru, but to buy it on fundamentals was foolhardiness and wishful thinking.

There are no fundamentals to PALM. There was at one point, but that was 10 years ago, and they've since been squandered.

The Pre is a desperate, ill-prepared attempt to challenge RIMM and AAPL. I have no idea what made PALM think it could do so without a much, much bigger sponsor in its corner.
