As Research In Motion's (RIMM) smartphone share crumbles, the popularity of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is going down with it, even if many continue to swear by its messaging and contact-list features. Former co-CEO Jim Balsillie reportedly wanted to license BBM (along with access to RIM's network) for use on third-party platforms, but new chief Thorsten Heins put an end to those plans. Heins "decided RIM shouldn't pursue licensing deals in general," it's claimed.
