- Uber (UBER) will launch its first taxi-hail service in Japan, where the company was blocked from operating its own fleet of drivers.
- Uber will launch the app for those on the island of Awaji within the coming months. The island has a population of around 150K and has access to over 20 local taxi companies that will connect through the app.
- The pilot program will run until March 2019.
- Uber’s app connects those in Tokyo to local car services and the company has two ride-hailing pilot services for elderly residents in rural Japan.
