Anadarko Petroleum (APC), in what will be the first case arising from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico spill to go to trial, will argue a U.S. ban on deepwater drilling following the spill qualified as an act of God that allowed it to end a rig lease. Noble (NE), seeking up to $102M in damages for lost lease payments, contends the ban wasn't a force majeure and APC could have used the rig for other operations.
