Iraq announces a fourth round of bidding for oil and gas exploration of new blocks in the country, with the expected participation of 39 foreign companies including Chevron (CVX) and BP. ExxonMobil (XOM) is barred from the round because it entered into a deal with the Kurdish regional government to explore blocks in the semi-autonomous region. (earlier)

A production sharing agreement like XOM entered into with the Kurds is far more beneficial to XOM than entering into the per barrel fee Iraq is offering. The boys at XOM know what they are doing.

Watch these deals closely. The next decade in Iraq will mean lots of dollars for vested companies.
