Sierra Wireless (SWIR -1%) is acquiring the 2G/3G machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless module business of France's Sagemcom for £44.9M ($70.3M) in cash + assumed liabilities. The acquisition bolsters Sierra's existing M2M ops, putting it on better footing to compete with Novatel (NVTL) and others. It also lowers Sierra's dependence on a fiercely competitive, low-margin, 3G/4G modem business.
