The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says it has received 593 bids on 454 blocks in advance of the first U.S. lease sale in the central Gulf of Mexico since the 2010 Macondo blowout and oil spill. The American Petroleum Institute welcomes tomorrow's lease sale but says Pres. Obama's proposed offshore leasing plan through 2017 remains "inadequate."
