Google (GOOG) isn't just a major seller of ads anymore, it's buying plenty as well. The search giant's global ad and promotion spending doubled last year to $1.5B, estimates AdAge, and totaled $2.1B if one includes just-acquired Motorola Mobility's spending. All of that spending, however, didn't stop Google's brand ranking from falling a spot in a BrandZ study. Amazon's (AMZN) ad/promotion spending is believed to have increased 57% to $1.4B.
