United Technologies (UTX -2.2%) comes under fire today after pleading guilty to violating arms-export laws, as well as making false statements, regarding the sale of military technology to China. The company has agreed to pay a total of $55M in penalties to settle charges that its Pratt & Whitney Canada unit illegally sold modifications to electronic-engine-control software that will enable the Chinese to develop and produce their first modern military attack helicopter.
