Intel (INTC) has acquired Israel's IDesia Biometrics, according to a report from Globes. IDesia has developed an identification solution that relies on the unique electrical signal generated by a person's heartbeat, and only requires a user's finger to touch a small sensor. If the report holds, Intel likely wants to add IDesia's tech to its identity protection platform for hardware running on its CPUs.

  • This is not a mass market product. Biometric indentification is now covered with facial recognition and fingerprint readers. Government is the biggest client need but with strained purchase budgets its doubtful this would add to INTC significantly.
