ExxonMobil (XOM) says it is considering participation in a tender of six blocks in northern Afghanistan, as the country seeks bidders for the exploration and production of oil and gas in the Afghan-Tajik Basin. The government signed a deal last year with China National Petroleum for the development of oil blocks in the Amu Darya basin in the north.

    Bad choice.

You would hope for better from XOM. But, hey Standard Oil did a lively business with Nazi Germany and I.G.Farben Industries well past Sept. 1, 1939...not until Pearl Harbor did domestic activity end, but continued via overseas subsidiaries for awhile.

International companies have a hundred years experience in hostile environments and countries. Rest assured, they will have partners and relationships that will payoff and protect the project and make you wonder why we have a State Dept. Further, these companies are big time risk takers for which few people give them credit.
