Raytheon (RTN -1.6%) obtains a $636M order to provide the key interceptor for Boeing's (BA) ground-based missile defense program for the U.S. The deal lasts until 2018 and covers the Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle, which is designed to shoot down ballistic missiles in space. (PR)

    I grew up on the bases where the testing of these systems is performed - pretty incredible feats of engineering and it works. Because of the speeds at which the kill vehicle makes contact with the ICBM, no payload is necessary, they literally vaporize on contact.
