Dell (DELL) once gained PC share by cutting out the downstream middleman. Today Lenovo (LNVGY.PK) is gaining share by cutting out the upstream middleman. While Dell, H-P (HPQ), and other rivals increasingly rely on Asian contract manufacturers, Lenovo has gone with an in-house assembly approach that has helped it keep costs down and more quickly adjust to supply chain problems. Lenovo recently passed Dell to become the world's #2 PC maker. (also)
