Samsung (SSNLF.PK) wins a court fight against Apple (AAPL) and gets officially insulted at the same time. U.K. Judge Colin Birss ruled the design of the Galaxy tablets doesn't infringe on the iPad's design, and that consumers are unlikely to confuse the two as the Galaxy tablets "do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design... They are not as cool."

Talk about a left-handed compliment! Da judge says no Samsung, you're not infringing on Apple because your user experience is lame. I'd call that a Pyrrhic victory for Samsung.

Wow and I thought we in the US had the lamest judges. I feel much better now. So there was a reason to leave England and then declare ourselves free of such lameity (new English word based on lame judge).

And with that Samsung battle victory, everyone worldwide decided that they didn't want to be the one to buy uncool products. So Apple then went forward to sell millions more of very cool iPads and Samsung not so much is rejoicing in its little victory. Such a dilemma, how can Samsung slavishly copy and yet be cool and non-detectable by the judges ? Maybe they'll finally innovate a special copycat technique. Better yet, go innovate your own products.

Definitely something to put a smile on my face this morning. Being the proud owner of one of these 'uncool ' iPads. Do I care - not a lot !!

The Judge really meant - "I'm tossing you a bone on this non-critical battle (how do you patent esthetics?), cuz you're gonna lose the war"

Apple cannot appeal without claiming 'but Samsung's products really are as cool as ours!'

Thus, Apple is unlikely to appeal, and this series of lawsuits will end.

    Smart judge.

They could appeal saying they agree they aren't cool but they are slavishly copying form, fit and function and that heretofore they had opportunity to release such a great product but never did until Apple came up with it. And only then did Samsung whip out a product that is amazingly and slavishly similar to Apple's product and that they had access to Apple's designs and design plans. And that this slavish betrayal of Supplier trust should have consequences.
