Questcor (QCOR -11.5%), which opened today near its all-time high, plunges after Citron Research issues a report (.pdf) questioning the sustainability of Acthar gel sales. Citron points to the decades-old availability of similar generic products, Novartis' launch of a synthetic alternative, and insurance industry pushback. Citron also goes after Questcor's low R&D spending and unexplained marketing expenses. (yesterday) (TheStreetSweeper)

  • Barron's and Streetsweeper have done something similar to Cintron, with no long term success. Typically happens during company's quiet period to drive fear in uninformed weak stock holders. It is a shame that non ethical shortens can fabricate with no accountability to prove their remarks.

  • As mentioned in other stories, Citron Research is a well-known short seller, who is obviously orchestrating a large profit on their part. I think it's morally despicable, if not illegal. This is why individual investors like myself completely lose trust in the market. The same thing happened with GMCR a while back - luckily I got out in time then.

  • I'm no expert on stocks, but according to Brian Bollan of, this is an old inaccurate story that has resurfaced, and that now would be a good time to buy.

  • This is complete nonsense to me. Questcor comes out yesterday saying their sales are increasing. AKA they are growing, and then these guys say the sales are unsustainable, give me a break!! listen to the company not the A-holes trying to make a buck. Qcor is going to report over 100% revenue growth Y/Y on their next earnings report along with millions of share repurchases. With the small number of shares that Qcor has outstanding the short will be burned alive. Good luck shorts! LONG Qcor.
