Meta Platforms' (NASDAQ:META) artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, powered by Meta Llama 3, has been integrated across multiple platforms and released in more global markets, the social media giant revealed Thursday.
Meta AI, rival to OpenAI's ChatGPT, can now be used across Meta's apps, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. It can also be accessed in a standalone website: Meta AI.
Meta moved up 3% following the news.
Meta AI in English is also being released in more than a dozen countries outside the US, including Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The update to Meta AI has also improved its image generation capabilities.
"We’re making image generation faster, so you can create images from text in real-time using Meta AI’s Imagine feature," Meta said in a press release. "We’re starting to roll this out today in beta on WhatsApp and the Meta AI web experience in the US."
Llama 3 models will soon be available on AWS (AMZN), Databricks, Google Cloud, Hugging Face, Kaggle, IBM (IBM) WatsonX, Microsoft Azure, NVIDIA (NVDA) NIM, and Snowflake (SNOW), and with support from hardware platforms offered by AMD (AMD), AWS, Dell (DELL), Intel (INTC), NVIDIA, and Qualcomm (QCOM), Meta said.
AWS also said Meta Llama 3 is available on Amazon SageMaker JumpStart.
"Llama 3 uses a decoder-only transformer architecture and new tokenizer that provides improved model performance with 128k size," AWS spokesperson Emma Quong said. "In addition, Meta improved post-training procedures that substantially reduced false refusal rates, improved alignment, and increased diversity in model responses."
"In the coming months, we expect to introduce new capabilities, longer context windows, additional model sizes, and enhanced performance, and we’ll share the Llama 3 research paper," Meta added.
Meta launched its Llama 2 large language model back in July 2023. Some of its safeguards were considered "too safe" as it wanted to avoid some of the pitfalls experienced by Google's (GOOG)(GOOGL) Gemini.
