How can the ex-div date differ from the 9/10 "for shreholders of record" date?

karimt - I was trying to ask why the two dates are not the same. The two dates in question are the "for shareholders of record" date (which was given in both the RAI Press Release and the Seeking Alpha article); and the "ex-div" date (which was not specifically mentioned in the RAI Press Release).... I ask because I thought the "ex-div" date was the same as the "for shareholders of record" date.
