What will the Oracle of Omaha do? Sitting with 73M shares of Procter & Gamble (PG +1.4%), Warren Buffett is as interested as anyone in the dramatic going-ons at P&G. Important to note, Buffett and Bill Ackman were on the same side of the battle to split up Kraft.

There has to be a change in the business model at P&G. The management teams make the same mistakes over and over and expect band aid changes to fix things in the long run. I would never want to see the company split up but it needs to shed certain brands, hire marketing people that know how to beat the competition, change the way the company does its internal business (some groups had to do this since they were cut to the bone but others still operate business as usual) and make deeper cuts (that will drive a change in the business model). As a recent retiree I am deeply concerned for my colleagues left holding the bag but as a shareholder I am pissed off.....

P&G is following the standard practices of many large companies - that are not in the consumer goods business. They have some core things wrong... alot of them.

This is what happens boys and girls when you don't know what is important anymore, and contract it all out. P&G is getting to the place that they don't know, what they don't know anymore.

Bloomberg reports PG is hiring pr firms and banks to advise them how to respond to Ackman.

It's an indication of the mentality at PG that they don't start thinking strategically until forced into it by an outsider.
