The next version of Microsoft's (MSFT) SQL Server database, which forms a big part of the company's growing Server & Tools unit, will amount to a huge upgrade, writes Network World. New business intelligence, data replication, and high-speed retrieval capabilities are touted. Accompanying those features are higher license fees. SQL Server is the #2 database on the market, behind Oracle's 11g. It also competes with the open-source MySQL (supported by Oracle), and IBM''s DB2. (previous)
