Grocery store chain Weis Markets (WMK -0.3%) decides to freeze prices for 100 days to commemorate its 100th anniversary. The mid-sized company says it has locked in savings from strategic early buying, but that's not the story at all from larger chains such as SWY, SVU, and KR where the perfect storm of higher food costs and competitive pressure from big box retailers has been hitting bottom lines.

This perfect storm has been coming all along, major players like Safeway and ,Kroger have for years been emphasazing ,control the controllable. Shrink, Labor, Shoplifting of all sorts have been on the radar for recent years, but now with a more heightened focus.
This in and of itself will not totally take the sting out of rising prices and stiff competition, but it does give focus to the adage that if you" FAIL TO PLAN THEN PLAN TO FAIL" So lets just buckle down and prepare to ride this one out. Surely we know that typically after a season of drought comes a season of abundance.
Lets just stay prepared for the present and plan for the future.
