Shortly after DirecTV (DTV) expresses optimism it can reach a deal with Viacom (VIA), Viacom posts a statement accusing DirecTV of "moving backwards significantly" on negotiations. While customers fume, Disney (DIS) reaps the benefits. At what point do consumers start responding to these "showdowns" by demanding a la carte programming, which could let them decide on their own whether a 30% fee hike for a particular channel is "fair?" Apple sure wouldn't mind.
