At today's Toyota (TM -1.8%) hearings at the U.S. House, Rep. Henry Waxman says the crisis "will require legislation," without offering specifics. Toyota's president says he fears the pace at which the automaker grew in the last decade was too fast. Meanwhile, Toyota falls behind Honda and Subaru on Consumer Reports' list of best vehicles.

It is really pretty funny that Rep Waxman has not looked at the regulatory failure in Washington as they have forced Toyota to look at their organizational failures.

So Henry, what is the root cause that kept the government regulators from focusing on Toyota acceleration problems, Fords Firestone tire problems (etc. etc.) Why hasn't Congress addressed these short comings as this is what you are elected to do.

Less pointy finger games from Congress and more action to fix regulatory problems would be appreciated by this citizen/voter.

The politicians love beating up on anyone or anything that will distract the voters from the Real Issues our nation faces: runaway deficits, the largest trade deficit in the world, bankrupt state governments, 50 million people without healthcare, 2 wars that we cannot afford and cannot win, corrupt lobbyists, out of control pork-barrel spending, 50 million who are unemployed or underemployed, rising crime and homelessness, the most persons imprisoned as a percentage of the population of any nation in the world, a currency that has lost 95% of its value since 1964, tens of millions of people who owe more on their house than it is worth, porous borders, rampant drug abuse, etc etc etc
