Microsoft (MSFT) says its Azure cloud infrastructure/app platform now stores over 4T objects, up 4x from a year ago. Amazon (AMZN) recently said its S3 cloud storage platform stores over 1T objects, though its methodology is a little different. Azure leverages and supports many of the software products offered by Microsoft's highly profitable Server & Tools unit. However, its infrastructure needs are one reason why Microsoft's FY13 capex is expected to top $3B.
